Washington – The United States is very encouraged by the reforms undertaken by Morocco to ameliorate its business climate, US Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy, and Business Affairs José Fernandez said on Monday.

“We are encouraged by these reforms all the more so because Morocco is continuously showing its firm will to draw foreign investors,” he said at a meeting with the press at the Department of State in Washington, noting that the Moroccan authorities share “our goals in this area.”

He voiced US companies’ wish to invest in the sector of solar energy in Morocco. “The United States is a leader in the field and I would like that my country takes part in this sector in Morocco.”

He went on saying that the solar energy industry might control, in the future, the Maghreb region’s exports to the rest of the world.

He said that, thanks to the free trade agreement between Morocco and the US, the Kingdom will become a trade platform for American businesses wishing to gain a foothold in Africa, particularly in the MENA region.

Morocco has a very good infrastructure, he said, underlining the Moroccan authorities’ will to strengthen the country’s highway network.
