The setbacks and failures of the separatists of the “Polisario” and their Algerian mentor are continuing and intensifying.
At the end of last August, the armed separatist group the “polisario” and the Algerian media rejoiced, with arrogance and manipulation, that in the report of the UN Secretary-General to the 75th session of the General Assembly, Australia allegedly supported the organization of the referendum for the settlement of the Moroccan Sahara issue, while it is all wrong.
Indeed, the Secretary-General’s report has been permanently withdrawn at the request of Australia and a revised version of the report has just been released by the United Nations.
In this version, Australia’s contribution does not contain any reference to the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, thus categorically refuting the false assertions of the Polisario that Canberra supports a so-called referendum, which the Security Council, the UN Secretary-General and the international community have buried for good for two decades.
It should be noted that Australia’s position is clear on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara. This country has always supported the UN political process to reach a mutually acceptable political solution to this regional dispute.
As evidenced by Australia’s favorable vote on two resolutions concerning the issue of the Moroccan Sahara during its term as a non-permanent member of the Security Council in 2013 and 2014.
Relations between Morocco and Australia are growing stronger in all areas, notably in the political, economic and socio-cultural fields, particularly following the opening of their respective embassies in Rabat and Canberra.
