Rabat — Secretary general of the Energy and Mining Ministry Mohamed Yahia Zniber and President of the Chilean Senate Guido Girardi Lavin discussed, on Tuesday in Rabat, bilateral cooperation in the field of renewable energy.

During the meeting, Zniber highlighted investment opportunities in Morocco and means to strengthen cooperation in the fields of energy, mining and environment, said a statement of the Ministry on Thursday.

He also recalled the major projects launched by Morocco, notably solar energy integrated project in the city of Ouarzazate and wind energy project that will increase the rate of renewable energy to 42% of the total energy capacity.

For his part, the Chilean official praised Morocco’s achievements in terms of energy development.

He said that his visit to the kingdom reflects his country’s interest in boosting cooperation with Morocco in the field of renewable energy through “win-win” partnerships.

In this regard, the two parties agreed to form a Moroccan-Chilean task force on renewable energy, set up an agenda to examine cooperation in the field of solar energy and implement the Protocol of Agreement on cooperation between the two countries in the mining sector, signed in 1998.
