King Mohammed VI announced that he would address the nation of Morocco in an address tomorrow evening (2000 GMT) that is likely to offer reform proposals that will dramatically curtail his powers. The speech will come a week after the King was handed the report from a commission convened in March to review reforms. According to AFP the speech will outline reforms that will be put forward for a national referendum next month. Among the changes will be a major transfer of power from King Mohammed VI to the Prime Minister. The reforms are expected to transform the country into a constitutional monarchy, one of the demands put forward by Morocco’s 20th February Movement.
