Rabat – Morocco’s Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani called for boosting Moroccan-Algerian relations in order to reach the level of historical ties existing between the two peoples.
In an interview with Moroccan radio station “Medi 1 radio” from Washington, broadcasted on Friday, the Minister called for opening borders between the two countries, noting that this decision is up to “our Algerian brothers.”
He said that “we are examining the development of bilateral relations in all areas,” mentioning, in this context, the exchange of visits between the two countries and the setting up of several joint programs in agriculture, marine fisheries, energy and youth, among others.
Several other programs will be developed to further promote the bilateral economic and trade exchange, he added.
As for the ninth round of informal talks on the Sahara, held on March 11-13 in Manhasset, at the invitation of the U.N. Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, Christopher Ross, El Otmani reiterated that the autonomy plan put forward by Morocco is the solution that allows to break the current deadlock, as evidenced by the growing international support for this initiative qualified by the United Nations as serious and credible.
