An international conference on “Women and New Media in the Mediterranean” will be held June 24 through June 26 in Fez. Experts and academics from over 20 countries, including Morocco’s own feminist academic Fatima Sadiqi, are expected to attend this event. Gender issues and new media, virtual activism of young women in the region and the growing impact of new media such as Facebook and other blogs in the Mediterranean are topics expected to be discussed at the weekend conference. In addition, there will be a specific workshop on “New Media and Gender Equality in Morocco” which will host several Moroccan and international feminist activists. The conference will be held at the ISIS Center for Women and Development and will be used as a training tool in new media knowledge for 15 local Moroccan women.
