Egencia is proud to announce the participation of one of its own in the women-only off-road race, Rallye Aïcha des “Gazelles” in Morocco from March 15 – 29. Juliette Thorpe, Development Project Director at Egencia Europe, will be one of 320 women from 33 countries participating in the event.
Egencia and parent company Expedia, Inc. are happy to support her in this adventure as part of our commitment to our employees’ charity and community service efforts around the world.
Organized by the international event agency Maïnga, the rally raid is the only one of its kind exclusively for women. After over 12 months of planning, fund-raising and specialised training, Juliette has earned a spot among the 160 teams of women who will be making their way along 2,500 kilometres of desert terrain.
Participants will be piloting 4X4 cars, trucks, quads and motorcycles across the Saharan desert using traditional navigation methods. The test is not against time, but against the cunning of fellow competitors trying to drive the shortest distance between two points using only a compass and map to find their way.
The winner of the rally raid will earn €15,000 to be donated to the charity of their choice. Juliette has chosen a French child protection organisation, Ange Bleu which is active in France and Morocco. The event also supports the Moroccan humanitarian organisation, Coeur des Gazelles.
