Bumper calendar includes four women-only events

Action Medical Research will use this week’s London Bike Show to showcase their 2012 calendar of challenge rides. The children’s charity will stage 25 events this year, including three all-new ones exclusively for women.

Once again heading up the programme is their flagship London to Paris tour (18-22 July), which includes a new women-only route for 2012. The 300-mile ride sees 600 cyclists arrive in Paris in time for the final stage of the Tour de France, riding in convoy down the Champs Elysees the day before the professional cyclists head into the city. There are three alternative routes for 2012, open to all, including a three-day option.

The women-only DIVA100 series now has support from Trek (as does the RIDE100 series) and has been expanded, with new events scheduled for Scotland and the Midlands in addition to the original Sussex ride. They all take place this May and offer 100km or 50km routes.

Ride L’Etape (6-9 September) is a new overseas tour, replicating stage 19 of last year’s Tour de France. The 116km trek through the French Alps tackles three of the region’s most notorious climbs – Col du Télégraphe, Col du Galibier and Alpe d’Huez. Mountain bikers can sign up for the new Morocco Bike or Hike (5-9) July), which will take riders across the Atlas Mountains. Those wanting to keep their feet on the ground can take the hiking option.

Challenges closer to home include the UK End 2 End, a ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats in just nine days, and the RIDE24 endurance relay, which sees teams race day and night for 24 hours at Goodwood Motor Circuit. The RIDE100 series continues to offer 100km/100-mile one-day rides across the UK, including the Lake District, Peak District and Scotland’s Trossachs.

You can visit the Action Medical Research team on stand LB125 at the London Bike Show. The show, which takes place from 12-15 January at the ExCel centre, is in its second year. You can buy discounted tickets by entering the code ‘radar’ at checkout. Entry with the code costs £15 compared to an on-the-door price of £20.

BikeRadar will be hosting a training hub at the show, giving you access to a wide range of cycling-specific physiological assessments and coaching advice. The hub, powered by cycling training expertsKoolstof Sports Coaching, is an exclusive area within the show which will put visitors through their paces over two hours in a series of tests and consultations designed to assess your performance and target areas for improvement.
