Washington – Morocco and the United States “agreed to move together towards a much more ambitious strategic partnership,” Minister Delegate for Foreign Affairs, Youssef Amrani, told on Thursday MAP news agency, after a meeting with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns.
“We discussed bilateral relations and agreed to move towards a much more ambitious strategic partnership, with an element of political dialogue on bilateral, regional and international issues,” said Amrani, who started Wednesday a two-day working visit in Washington.
As members of the Security Council, “we, said the minister, reviewed what we have achieved together in the Council, as part of ongoing consultation and continuous dialogue that helped advance in many issues.”
On the Syrian issue, both sides agreed to continue dialogue in order to create the best conditions for the holding, in Morocco, the next meeting of the Friends of the Syrian people, he said.
Youssef Amrani, on the other hand, emphasized “the convergence of views and analysis regarding transitions in some Arab countries,” adding that Rabat and Washington agreed to “contribute to the joint support of these transitions and conflict resolution.”
Both sides, moreover, stressed the need to move forward in building the Arab Maghreb Union and noted the advances that have been made recently in this area, including the prospect of holding an AMU summit soon.
