Jun 21, 2012Imperial Tobacco’s business in Morocco has won a prestigious award for its ongoing efforts to keep beaches clean at a popular resort near its Aïn Harrouda factory.

In a note posted on the company’s website, Imperial Tobacco Maroc (ITM) said it had been ‘honoured with a Clean Beaches Award for supporting a public awareness campaign at Sablettes Beach’.

‘ITM won a similar award last year for its contribution to the environmental improvement project which resulted in the beach gaining Blue Flag status’, it said.

Paul Leggat, general manager Morocco, accepted the latest award from Princess Lalla Hasnaa, chairwoman of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection.

“After helping to make the improvements at Sablettes Beach, we supported an awareness campaign locally to ensure that it remains clean,” he said.

“This will be backed by an employee volunteer programme starting this summer to play an active part in keeping the area tidy.”
