Trading continues at world market

TRADING continues at Londonderry’s Continental Market today between 9am and 6pm in Guildhall Square with traders from 26 countries including Morocco, India, Belgium, France, Russia, Tanzania, Spain and China.

Exotic food from various countries, Peruvian Clothing and Baltic Amber Jewellery will be on sale.

The Market’s on-going commitment to local business means indigenous traders can also be seen offering the finest local produce alongside the amazing mix of international stalls.

Mayor, Alderman Maurice Devenney said: “The Market will also attract shoppers and visitors to the city as we prepare for a summer of fantastic events including the visit of the Olympic Torch as part of our Big Flame Festival weekend in June, the Peace One Day concert and the Clipper Homecoming Festival in July.”

During their stay in Northern Ireland the Market’s visiting traders will be exporting not only Northern Ireland’s reputation as an exemplary host, they will also be supporting local retailers by encouraging people to shop in their town and city centres.

Chief Executive of Northern Ireland Independent Retail and Traders Association, Glyn Roberts welcomed the return of the touring Continental Market and the boost it would bring to Northern Irish retail.

He said: “The Continental Market tour is an excellent initiative, which brings something different and diverse to Northern Ireland.

“It helps attract visitors to towns and city centres, many of who go on to shop in other retailers near by. In this celebratory year it’s great to be able to show off quality attractions such as the Market.”
