Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane Visits Tunisia

Abdelilah Benkirane, leader of Morocco’s Justice and Development party

Today, Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane began a two-day diplomatic visit to Tunisia to discuss ways of enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries.

Benkirane was officially invited by Tunisian Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali, and will be accompanied by the Moroccan Minister of Education Mohamed el-Wafa and Delegate Minister in charge of the budget at the Moroccan Ministry of the Economy and Finance Driss el-Azami el-Idrissi.

Benkirane will hold a press conference at the Prime Ministry today and will visit the presidential palace tomorrow.

Benkirane is the leader of the Justice and Development Party, a Moroccan Islamist group that won the majority of seats in Morocco’s parliamentary elections on November 25, 2011.

Morocco is regarded as a significant partner to Tunisia in the Maghreb region, currently hosting 19 Tunisian companies in the trade, industry, and service sectors.

Respectively, Tunisia is currently host to 23 Moroccan industry, agriculture, and banking companies.

The 17th Moroccan-Tunisian High Joint Commission summit will be held in Rabat, Morocco, on June 15. The prime ministers of both Tunisia and Morocco will preside over the event, and will hold discussions concerning anticipated development initiatives.
