Barcelona – Head of the Moroccan government, Abdelilah Benkirane, called, on Sunday in Barcelona, for intensifying economic cooperation between Morocco and Catalonia through stronger presence of Catalan investors in the Kingdom.

“In these times of economic crisis, Morocco offers enormous investment opportunities for Catalan and Spanish companies,” Benkirane said at a joint press conference with the president of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, Artur Mas, after their talks.

Morocco is keen to promote cooperation with all the regions of Spain, Benkirane added.

In this regard, he urged Catalan small and medium enterprises to establish partnerships with their Moroccan counterparts to develop projects in such promising areas as agriculture.

Regarding the process of regionalization in Morocco, Benkirane stressed the Kingdom’s determination to meet all the conditions needed to ensure the success of this project, saying that Morocco could benefit from the positive aspects of Catalonia’s experience.

For his part, Artur Mas stressed Catalonia’s interest in intensifying its cooperation with Morocco, calling for promoting trade and economic relations between the two parties.

He urged Catalan companies, faced with the crisis, to make the most of the many investment opportunities offered by Morocco, a country with a “blooming economic growth.”

Benkirane concluded, on Sunday, a three-day visit to Catalonia. He had been received on Friday in Madrid by King Juan Carlos I of Spain, and held talks with his Spanish peer Mariano Rajoy and the speaker of the Senate, Pio Garcia Escudero.
