Tour Spain, Morocco With EG Families

After the success of a trip to Austria, Germany and Switzerland over April break, trip organizers hold a first meeting Sunday for a trip in April 2013.

About a year and a half ago Allison Demetros and I decided to take a chance and organize the trip to Europe mainly so our families could travel abroad together. We thought, wouldn’t it be fun to have other East Greenwich families travel with us?

Allison and I are both former event planners so we figured it would be a lot like planning an event. We chose EF Educational Tours because two of my husband’s sisters are teachers and they have used them for years. In fact, they are the ones who suggested we run a trip. For our first trip, we teamed up with Pam Farmer, a sister-in-law of mine who was already going to Austria, Germany, Lichtenstein and Switzerland. She suggested we take half of the 52-person bus and she’d take the other half. We benefitted from her 30 years of leading student trips.

The EG children who went on the trip ranged in age from 4th grade to 9th grade. The age on the entire bus ranged from 9 years to 79 years. It was an amazing experience to see people of all ages conversing with one another. Everyday was a new adventure. We realized that someday our children will grow up and opportunities like this won’t be so easy to schedule so we seized the chance.

The wonderful thing about taking an organized trip is that you see so much more than if you went on your own. There’s no waiting in line and you get personalized attention. We had a full-time tour director Paul Mattesini from England who kept us on track and even accommodated a side trip for us in Innsbruck so we could see an Olympic ski jump. Allison and I are so glad we took this chance. We had such a great group of people and many, many laughs.

We have selected Spain and Morocco as our next spring-break trip. We will be traveling April 2013. This trip will focus on Madrid and southern Spain. We will also be taking a day trip to Morocco and perhaps try our hand at camel riding. You can check out the itinerary at http://eftours.com/1267375.

We are having an informational session on Sunday, April 29, at 5:30 at my home, 60 Signal Ridge Way. Beyond that, we are contemplating a June 2014 trip to Australia. All are welcome to attend the Sunday info session.
