The third stop for the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) will be in Morocco, on April 14 & 15, 2012. The Moulay El Hassan street circuit, located in the outskirts of Marrakesh, has hosted the FIA WTCC since 2009. This African event has an exceptional place on the calendar due to its atypical track composed almost exclusively of immense straight lines and the enthusiasm of the spectators.
Tiago Monteiro is loyal to his objectives from the start of the season, and continues to keep securing points as his ambition. On a track that smiled on him during his last visit, when he conquered 3rd and 4th place in the two races, Tiago explained that he is expecting a bitter fight. “All races are difficult, but on a street circuit everything is amplified. Despite everything, I love to race so close to the walls, between two rows of rails. You have to keep a safety margin to avoid contact with other cars or brushing the walls. That’s what I will have in mind going into the weekend,” Tiago Monteiro explained, “I still won’t have the new SEAT engine and so I will have to try to do my best with the old car. The ideal thing would be to secure points.”
In Morocco, the race always have a special face thanks to the spectators who aren’t shy about expressing their enthusiasm, and who give the drivers additional motivation. “It’s great to feel the help of the audience. It will be a demanding race where tyres will have an overwhelming role in how the weekend plays out and I wonder where we are situated with regard to our main competitors. I think there could be a few surprises,” concluded the SEAT Leon #18 car driver.
Qualifying will be broadcast live on Eurosport on Saturday, April 14 at 5:15 pm and the raced will be broadcast on Sunday the 15th at 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
