After making demands in advance of International Women’s Day, women postal workers in Morocco make gains in their rights at work.

Women postal workers gathered in Casablanca 24 March to celebrate their success in demands made in advance of International Women’s Day. After releasing a series of demands around the working conditions of the predominantly female postal counter staff, postal management met with 11 women activists from across Morocco to negotiate terms of an agreement.

The workers, had demanded more back up on the part of postal management when dealing with problematic customers and situations. The women workers argued that postal management did not provide any support in these situations. Furthermore, male postal supervisors would attend Friday prayers, leaving offices without any supervisory staff, which affected the security of the offices. Furthermore, the women workers were not permitted the same rights to Friday prayers. The women also argued that crèches should be provided on-site for women workers who have infants.
