25 fashion designers from Morocco will presenttheir samples at the Düsseldorf Fashion House from April 24 to 26. The Moroccan fashion industry has already been well established in France, Italy and Spain.

Now brands and retailers across the rest of Europe are also looking to Morocco due to attractive and valuable assets such as duty-free and short-term deliveries, short transport routes, flexibility in product execution and quantity, intriguing price-performance ratios with Moroccan wages (which are lower than that of Turkey) and eco-friendly production processes.

Eterknit/Green Spirit is one company that specializes in ecologically produced fashion; the garments for both its own Green Spirit collection and its clients, which include Monoprix, System U and Okaidi, carry the signet ‘Global Organic Textile Standard.’ Denim manufacturer Ville Mode produces for Max Mara and Woolrich, while SDC’s client roster includes Chemins Blanc, Redoute, Magasin Bleu, Newman, Demart and Karting. Elite Sportswear produces 4,000 pieces daily and serves 3 Suisses, Desigual and Sandek.Sinmatex, CIC and Movitex specialize in jersey collections, serving companies such as Agnès B, APC, Bershka, Burberry, Cortefiel, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, El Corte Inglès, Escada, Gilmar, Grieff, Hacket, Killah, Kookai, Mango, Massimo Dutti, Max Mara, Miss Sixty, Weill Paris, Zara and many more. Knitwear specialists such as Modatric, Tricotstyle,Eden Maroc and Larimode have a reference list of names such as Camaieu, Cache Cache, Kiabi, Pepe Jeans, Chevignon and Groupe Beaumanoir.

Abderrahmane Atfi, owner of Elite and member of the AMITH consulting committee, said: “Moroccan manufacturers command a diversity and flexibility for quick response and smaller quantities. The industrial improvements in the Tangiers region – on of the biggest harbors in the world – contribute to meeting the changing needs of the fashion world.”

Part of the exhibition will include a press day where woven, denim, printed and colored fabrics will be showcased by MAFACO, with hang tags, fillings and zippers presented alongside by Consortium MILAD. All companies will be represented by their management at the Düsseldorf Fashion House. Co-organizer AMITH, the Moroccan textile and clothing association, runs trade missions such as the upcoming show in Düsseldorf as well as local industry events.Mona Schmadl
