London – The EU and Morocco have long had close political and economic links, Oxford Business Group (OBG) said in its 2012 report on Morocco .
Morocco is also the first country to have reached “advanced status” under the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP), it noted, adding that the EU is the kingdom’s most important trading partner.
Moroccan relations with the union continued to intensify and EU ties with Morocco are now among the strongest of the body’s links with states that are not accession candidates, it said.
“The awarding of advanced status to Morocco means that the EU considers Morocco to have a mature vision of its relationship with Europe and that it is committed to reform,” said Cécile Abadie, the head of section for politics, press communication and culture at the EU delegation in Morocco.
