London – The British government expressed on Friday hope that recent talks between Algeria and Morocco could signal a rapprochement between the two countries.
“I expressed hope that recent talks between Algeria and Morocco could signal a rapprochement” between the two countries, Foreign Office Minister for North Africa Alistair Burt said in a statement flowing the sixth UK-Algeria joint committee session.
A rapprochement, “alongside a revitalised role for the Arab Maghreb Union, would bring the people of the region closer together”, Alistair Burt added.
He also affirmed that “further integration would have economic and security benefits for all”, expressing hope that a solution can be found to the Sahara issue.
The Algerian delegation, during the 6th UK-Algeria joint committee session, was led by Abdelkader Messahel, Minister Delegate in charge of Maghreban and African Affairs.
