Washington – US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made a congratulatory phone call to Morocco’s Foreign Minister Saad Eddine El Othmani, during which she highlightred the time-honoured ties between the two countries, the US Department of State said on Friday.
During this phone conversation, which took place on Thursday, Clinton highlighted the longstanding relations between the United States and Morocco, recalling that the Kingdom was the first country to recognize the United States as a nation, said Deputy Spokesperson of the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs in the Department of State, Andy Halus.
During the call, Clinton said that El Othmani’s trip to Algeria stands as “a concrete example that both the Moroccans and Algerians want to work toward strengthening their relationship,” Halus added.
