London – The United Kingdom welcomes the commitment of Morocco and Algeria to improve their relations, said British Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, Alistair Burt .
Burt, speaking on Tuesday at the House of Commons, said that the UK government also hails the exchange of visits at the ministerial level between the two Maghreban countries.
The official, who hoped to see the Arab Maghreb Union play a more dynamic role, stressed that a well-integrated Maghreb will have certain economic and security benefits for the countries in the region.
Burt also said that regional cooperation in the Maghreb, including relations between Morocco and Algeria, was on the agenda of the talks that British Foreign Minister, William Hague, held in New York on March 12.
The United Kingdom’s permanent representative to the United Nations also examined the situation in the region during the recent visit to the headquarters of the U.N. Security Council by Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad Din El Otmani, said Burt, adding that he examined the positive development of relations between Morocco and Algeria on the occasion of the 6th Algeria-UK bilateral committee, held on March 8 in London.
