HM King Mohammed VI received, on Thursday, a phone call from UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, said a statement by the Royal Office.

During the phone conversation, Ban Ki Moon thanked HM the King for Morocco’s active role and constructive commitment in support of the UN agenda whether concerning peacekeeping, human development promotion or the fight against extremism and radicalization, said the statement.

HM the King assured the UNSG of Morocco’s support for achieving the UN’s current priorities, mainly regarding the post-2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), climate change and peacekeeping operations revision, it added.

On the Moroccan Sahara issue, the UNSG informed HM the King that he has taken note of Morocco’s remarks and observations and gave all guarantees about the neutrality, objectivity and impartiality of UN officials in charge of facilitating the UN mission, it said.

Ban Ki Moon also underlined that the MINURSO will continue its mission while strictly abiding by its current mandate.

On the basis of these clarifications and guarantees, HM the King confirmed to the UN chief Morocco’s commitment to backing the facilitation led by the Personal Envoy and its full cooperation with officials appointed by the UNSG for this end, the statement concluded.
