Two crew members working on NBC’s drama Odyssey have been attacked and hospitalized while filming in Morocco, Deadline has learned. A first assistant director and make-up artist were leaving a restaurant late at night near their apartment in Marrakech Plaza when a group of youths attempted to rob them. When the crew members defended themselves, a fight is believed to have broken out, leading to injuries that required medical treatment.
“They had to go to hospital with some broken hands but hopefully they will be OK,” line producer Ahmed Abounouom told Deadline. “This could have happened anywhere in the world. It was not on the set and it had nothing to do with the project.”
The attacks did not cause any delay in filming, according to Abounouom.

Morocco has become the go-to place for Hollywood in recent years for filmmakers looking for Middle Eastern or exotic locations. The North African country has largely sheltered itself from the turmoil to be found elsewhere in the region, attracting an increasingly high-profile list of projects, including American Sniper, Game Of Thrones and Mission: Impossible 5.
The country is hoping to continue its most successful run ever as an international shooting location with the new James Bond installment filming there in a few weeks time. Ang Lee’s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, Michael Bay’s Benghazi drama The Tempest, and the Weinstein Co’s epic Ancient Egypt-set TV series Book Of The Dead are also among the projects set to shoot there in the coming months.
Odyssey is a Traffic-like action drama written by Adam Armus, Nora Kay Foster and Peter Horton and directed by Horton. It follows an international conspiracy that explodes when three strangers’ lives unexpectedly collide — a female soldier stranded in North Africa, a corporate lawyer working for a U.S. corporation allegedly funneling money to Jihadi groups, and and a political activist who claims to have unearthed a massive military-industrial conspiracy. Anna Friel, Peter Facinelli and Jake Robinson all star.
Armus, Foster and Horton executive produce with Simon Maxwell, Mikkel Bondesen, Henrik Bastin and Kristen Campo for Universal TV, Fabrik Entertainment and Red Arrow Entertainment Group.
