Production in the fruit sectors is expected to increase after the decline in the previous season.

According to the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Aziz Akhannouch, the production of the main fruit sectors should register a significant increase after the drop last season, despite the constraints related to the climate and the Covid-19 health crisis.

In response to a central question during the weekly oral questioning session in the Chamber of Councilors, the Minister noted that the production of citrus is expected to increase by 29% compared to the previous season, while attributing such a predictable performance to the increase in production of new citrus plantations under the Green Morocco Plan.

According to Mr. Akhannouch, the expected production of olives should register an increase of 14% compared to the previous season, specifying that this increase is due to several factors, in particular the positive impact of rainfall in April and May.

In addition, record date production will be up 4% compared to the previous year, thanks in particular to the beneficial impact of climatic conditions, believing that this development bears witness to the success and effectiveness of the diversification program which is one of the main pillars of the Green Morocco Plan.
