There would be little change to aviation in the event of a No Agreement scenario if the airport would continue to operate as at present.
The latest Technical Notice published by Government highlights the position regarding flights to the UK would remain largely as it is today, in the event of No Agreement on the future relationship between Gibraltar with the European Union.
Flights to Morocco would also remain largely unaffected, with the UK already having signed a new Aviation Agreement with Morocco that would cover Gibraltar and become effective in 2021.
The Government has issued a Technical Notice on Monday morning, which explains that not much would change for flights between Gibraltar and the UK in the event of a No Agreement scenario. The only change would be that current arrangements for flights between the Rock and the UK would change from EU Law to international conventions.
The Notice also outlines that under the Air Services Transit Agreement of 1944, flights would also be able to divert to Spanish airports when required.
Government says that flights between Gibraltar and Morocco would also be unaffected, despite a No Agreement scenario. The only change would be that Gibraltar would cease to be covered by the EU – Morocco aviation agreement. It would instead be covered by a new UK – Morocco agreement that would come into effect on the 1st of January 2021.
Little change to Security arrangements too. The Government says it has already made provisions to retain the EU Security regulations in Gibraltar Law. These would continue to apply to mail, courier services, cargo, and live animals.
Passenger Rights as they apply today would also continue to apply at the end of the transition period, with EU Passenger rights legislation also being retained in UK Law for passengers travelling on UK airlines.
And in a statement Government encourages everyone to continue to plan ahead. It highlights the importance of citizens and businesses investigating fully the consequences of a No Deal scenario on their daily life.
Government says it will continue to do everything to mitigate the effects of leaving the European Union without an agreement, but there are some areas which are completely outside the control of Government.
