Algeria is again setting conditions for dialogue with Morocco. The country revealed that it is “in favor of any initiative aimed at reunion”, the minister of Communication and government spokesperson Ammar Belhimer said in an interview with Russian news agency Sputnik.

The official pleaded, “for the adoption of dialogue (…), transparency with respecting the sovereignty of each country and the fundamental principles of Algerian diplomacy, based on non-interference in the internal affairs of States”.

He explained that Algeria’s foreign policy is based on “respect of international charters and decisions of the international community, including the protection of peoples and their right to self-determination, as it is the case for the Sahrawi question”.

As for the “joint political mechanism” proposed by King Mohammed VI last year to settle differences, the official said that the Kingdom has to meet certain conditions before the implementation of such plan.

In 2013, Algeria unveiled its condition : The end of media campaigns, preventing drug smuggling on Algerian territory, and admitting that Algeria sees the Western Sahara issue is a “decolonization that should only be solved by the UN”. Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Ministry refused these conditions.
