Moroccan engineers managed to make a prototype of an intensive care bed that shall be produced en masse for export purposes, according to the industry ministry.
The bed was made by private companies in partnership with the Moroccan industry ministry, which spurred the project.
It has been designed to meet international intensive care standards and is much competitive auguring well for export.
The initial price tag stands at 20,000 dirhams compared with 80,000 for similar beds Morocco imports.
This new much needed device comes at a context Morocco is witnessing a surge in coronavirus cases with over 1000 cases registered on a daily basis.
Doctors hope these beds will not meet the same fate as the Moroccan made ventilators, which are yet to be used by Moroccan hospitals.
Ventilator manufacturers accused the health ministry of delaying the approval of the respiration machines. The health ministry did not yet comment.
On Friday, total coronavirus cases rose to 57,085 including 1011 deaths and 41901 recoveries.
