Morocco was elected on Tuesday as president of the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO) for three years (2019-2022) during its 11th general assembly.

A ceremony to hand over the presidency was held between Moroccan Minister of Equipment, Logistics and Water Abdelkader Amara and Deputy Director General of the Mexican National Water Commission Jorge Eugenio Barrios Ordonez.

Morocco is committed, during this mandate, to promote the implementation of an integrated water resources management policy, in the context of adaptation to the climate change, the official news agency MAP said in a report.

On the sidelines of its general assembly, INBO International Conference on Water Security kicked off under the theme of “For an Innovative Basin Management,” the report said.

The conference intends to strengthen Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in order to ensure rural development and implementation of scientific advances in water management policies, with a focus on most vulnerable regions to water insecurity, particularly Africa.

The three-day meeting, held in Marrakech in central Morocco, aims also to maintain the political momentum and enhance the commitment of decision-makers to protect water security.
