The 8th Africities Summit opened on Tuesday in the Moroccan city of Marrakech with the participation of over 5,000 people.
Held under the theme “the transition to sustainable cities and territories: the role of Africa’s local and regional governments,” the Africities Summit aims at defining shared strategies in order to improve the living conditions of people.
The participants will discuss alternative policies leading to environmental sustainability and social inclusion in Africa.
The summit gathers ministers, officials, civil society organizations, associations and trade unions, economic operators, researchers and academics and international cooperation agencies.
Africities Summit is the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa’s flagship pan-African event that is held every three years in one of the five regions of Africa.
