Antoine Martin and Iballa Moreno have taken out the 2018 Morocco Spot X, at Moulay.

The first PWA event held in Morocco simultaneously kicked off the Women’s Wave World Tour, and the 2018 International Windsurfing Tour season.

Moulay delivered one of the most memorable competitive wave sailing sessions in the history of windsurfing, providing massive waves and powerful winds to all competitors.

At some point, there were reports of fear and problems in getting out between sets, as the world’s best tackled heavy closeouts, choppy wave faces, and stormy wind gusts.

The good news is that once athletes got used to the tricky swell, they found the right ramps for launching massive airs. Local windsurf hero Boujmaa Guilloul was one of the standouts of the event.

Moreno battled the elements and finished the contest with a clean sheet.

“I’m super happy and proud to be here because we had all the attention on the girls, which I think is really important for the sport,” explained the Spanish talent.

“This is an amazing place, I think we were a little bit unlucky this week with the wind, but we still managed to gain a good result. I think the level overall was good – especially in the final.”

On the men’s side, Antoine Martin managed to climb up the ladder to the top, despite breaking his gear several times. He won the first event of the IWT season.

“It’s almost unreal. This event was a huge mental game for me. A couple of days ago, I twisted my knee and almost thought the event would be over, but eventually felt good to go for it,” added Martin.
