Morocco is planning to upgrade and widen several of its major road links during 2016. The aim of the works will be to boost capacity as well as to improve stretches of road that suffer from regular flooding or which have an unacceptably high rate of crashes.

In all around 825km of roads will be improved by the programme of works, while there are also plans to improve 16 bridges. One section of road due to be upgraded is the 13km Larache-Ksar El Kbir stretch of the N1 route, while another is the 12km Sidi Bouzid-Jorf Lasfar expressway.

Also being improved is the Casablanca-Berrechid stretch of highway, which will help to cut the current chronic congestion at peak periods. The widening work will reduce delays by providing an increase in capacity between central Casablanca and its international airport located just to the south of the city. Meanwhile work on the El Jadida-Safi coastal highway will be completed.
