Technology and engineering group Sener has secured a contract to develop 510MW thermosolar plants Noor II and Noor III in Morocco.
Under the €500m contract, Sener, along with its partner Shandong Electric Power Construction III (SEPCO III), will undertake engineering, construction, commissioning and start-up work for the 200MW Noor II and 150MW Noor III facilities near Ouarzazate.
The Noor II project will have SENERtrough-2 system, the second generation of Sener’s troughs, while the Noor III plant will feature central tower technology with salt receivers.
The company is also developing the 160MW Noor I plant which features SENERtrough cylindrical parabolic troughs. The facility will be commissioned later this year.
Being developed in the city of Ouarzazate, the complex will have a total of four plants. Noor I, II and III will be equipped with thermosolar technology and molten salt storage system, which enable electricity production when there is no solar radiation. The fourth will be a photovoltaic technology plant.
Sener environment and solar power director Miguel Domingo said: “Sener is taking part in the engineering and construction of large thermosolar plants in which it applies its own technological solutions that report large cost savings and significant improvements in efficiency.”
