The UN Support Mission in Libya plans to organize a new round of dialogue between Libya’s political rivals in Morocco next week, according to a member of the outgoing parliament of Tripoli.

The expired General National Congress (GNC) will be involved in the talks for the first time after continuously refusing to participate in any dialogue held outside Libya.

“The GNC agreed in principle to an offer of UN envoy, Bernardino Leon, to organize a new round of political dialogue in Morocco,” the parliament member told Xinhua.

The Congress demanded the agenda to be discussed during the dialogue and still waited for a reply, according to the parliament member.

The member did not reveal the reason of holding the dialogue session in Morocco. However, the member said it is likely to be due to the deteriorating security situation in Libya.

The approval of the internationally recognized parliament, the House of Representatives (HOR), in the eastern city of Tobruk, to the session could not be confirmed.

However, Fathi Bashaga, a member of the HOR who boycotted the parliament’s sessions, confirmed in his Facebook page holding the dialogue in Morocco.

A week ago, the city of Ghadames, 550 km southwest Tripoli, hosted the preparatory meeting of the Libyan dialogue.

Bernardino Leon, special envoy of the UN Secretary-General and head of UN mission in Libya, succeeded in gathering the parties of the political crisis in Libya for the first time since the outbreak of the crisis seven months ago.

According to Libya’s transitional plan, the parliament HOR elected last June has already replaced the former GNC.

However, the armed Islamist alliance, Libya Dawn, which has achieved a series of military progress in western Libya since last July, backed the GNC in resuming power and forming its own government against the new one.

The internationally recognized HOR has been struggling to regain the lost territories by launching several air strikes on areas controlled by the Islamist militants.
