Morocco’s new mining strategy expects revenue to be about 1.4 billion Euros by 2025, the Minister of Energy and Mining announced Saturday.
According to Fouad Douiri in an interview with the Moroccan press, the mining sector would achieve a turnover of about 1.4 billion Euros by 2025 with the aim to also invest 364 million Euros in mining research.

This strategy, excluding phosphates, also intends to double job creation by 2025 (30,000). Besides phosphates which the Kingdom holds three quarters of the world’s reserves, Moroccan subsoil offers no less than twelve mining resources: including manganese, iron, cobalt, barite, silver, pewter, copper, etc.

An important tin deposit has recently been discovered in Achemmach, in Mekne region, central Morocco. Its exploitation is expected to start soon.

In 2012, the mining sector made geological and geochemical maps for an investment of about 1.4 billion Euros.

About research and exploitation, the minister revealed that over 4,000 research permits have been granted, focusing essentially on oil and gas exploration for an investment of 31.8 million Euros in 2011.
