Lower House Speaker Saad Hayel Srour met on Monday with Moroccan Minister in Charge of Parliament Affairs Al-Habib Al-Shobani to discuss the Syrian crisis, the repercussions of hosting the Syrian refugees in Jordan, and ways of forging closer ties between Jordan and Morocco.
Srour reviewed Jordan’s stance on the situation in Syria, adding that Jordan receives Syrian refugees daily and provides aid to them, despite facing difficult economic conditions.
He expressed hope that a peaceful political solution would be achieved in Syria to end the bloodshed and preserve Syria’s unity.
Srour also spoke about the pressure Syrian refugees have placed on the Kingdom’s governorates, mainly in the north, particularly on the education, health, water, and labour sectors and on the country’s infrastructure.
Talks during the meeting also touched upon the impact of the Arab Spring on the region and comprehensive reforms being implemented by both Jordan and Morocco.
The Moroccan minister said his country was keen to further promote relations with Jordan to serve the interests of both countries.
