At the third annual meeting of partners for sustainable tourism which was held from March 25 to 27 in Bonn, Germany, Morocco was elected chairman of the steering committee of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Tourism for the period 2013-2015.

The Global Partnership for Sustainable Tourism is a global initiative launched in 2011 to inject sustainability principles into the mainstream of tourism policies, development, and operations.

It emerged as a more permanent successor to the International Task Force on Sustainable Tourism Development (ITF-STD).

The Secretariat is hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme, Division of Technology, Industry, and Economics (UNEP-DTIE).

Morocco’s election is evidence to the recognition of stakeholders of tourism sustainability worldwide to Morocco’s efforts and commitment in this field and consolidates Morocco’s will to be a reference destination in the Mediterranean, says the tourism ministry.

Morocco takes over from France which had chaired the steering committee for two years.
