MARRAKECH, Morocco, (UPI) — A Lebanese drama set in the Middle East won the grand prize at the Marrakech International Film Festival in Morocco this weekend.
The festival’s Golden Star award went to “The Attack,” which was directed by Ziad Doueiri and told the story of an Israeli-Palestinian doctor whose wife carries out a deadly suicide attack in a restaurant.
The doctor, played by Ali Suleiman, goes on a personal quest to find out why his largely irreligious Christian wife turned herself into a terrorist.
The Kuwaiti news agency KUNA said “The Attack” was one of 15 movies from 15 nations entered in the 12th annual Marrakech festival. Ten of the films were helmed by first-time directors.
Elina Reinhold of Estonia won the best actress prize for her role in “Mushrooming” and Soren Malling of Denmark took best actor honors for “The Hijacking.”
