Last month Maureen and I had a short stay at a friend’s house in Marrakesh in Morocco. Our previous two visits to Marrakesh were in 2007 when we drove through on our way to Banjul in Gambia on the Plymouth-Banjul Challenge – nurse an old car down to West Africa and give it away, the money raised goes to African charities. And in 2005 when we flew through on a 50 year old twin-prop Convair airliner, it was the last leg of a trip from Cape Town to Casablanca and we flew in from Timbuktu.

This time we just lazed around at our friend’s place although we did, of course, visit the souq from the great Djemaa el-Fna square. And we wandered the cactus-studded, cobalt blue Jardin Majorelle, a gift to the city from Yves St Laurent.
▲ The garden also features M St Laurent’s Galerie Love, with its collection of his annual love posters.
