Washington   –  HM King Mohammed VI is a wise leader who knew how to anticipate the aspirations of his people long before the “Arab Spring”, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Maghreb Ray Maxwell said.

On his visit earlier this year to Morocco, Maxwell said that he could witness the dynamism characterizing the Moroccan society, noting that the reforms undertaken as part of the new constitution are the result of a gradual approach.

The US official also highlighted the firm and longstanding ties between his country and Morocco as evidenced by the signing by the two countries in 1787 of a friendship treaty, the longest unbroken treaty in the US history.

Washington works together with Rabat to establish “strategic dialogue covering all issues of common interest,” he said, reiterating the willingness of the Obama administration to further consolidate relations in the fields of economy, renewable energies and the military.

Maxwell also underscored the close cooperation between Morocco and the US within international forum and the Security Council.

In an interview with MAP, Maxwell expressed his country’s support for Morocco’s “positive” reforms, adding that the Kingdom implemented reforms before the advent of the Arab Spring thanks to the wise leadership of HM King Mohammed VI.
