Morocco plays a key role in the field of international migration, a representative of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Morocco said on Thursday.

Ana Fonseca said that Morocco has made great efforts in the field of migration by adopting a humane approach, which is a model in the region.

IOM joined the UN system as a related organization in September 2016.

The legalization of the situation of migrants in Morocco has facilitated the integration of migrants into the society, Fonseca said, highlighting the national immigration and asylum strategy, launched by King Mohammed VI.

The UN official renewed IOM’s support for Morocco in all its international commitments to properly manage and integrate migration in the various sectors of development and international cooperation.

She said the migration framework set up in Morocco has been strengthened due to a fruitful cooperation between governmental, non-governmental and international actors.
