UK Welcomes Morocco's Opening Of National Council On Human Rights Commissions In Laayoune And Dakhla

London – The United Kingdom welcomed, on Thursday, the opening by Morocco of National Council on Human Rights Commissions in Laayoune and Dakhla.

I welcome the opening of National Council on Human Rights regional commissions in Laayoune and Dakhla, UK Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, Alistair Burt, told the House of Commons. The UN Security Council welcomed, in its latest resolution 2044 on the Sahara adopted unanimously, the opening of the regional commissions in Laayoune and Dakhla.

The Council also reiterated the request that UNHCR maintain its consideration of a registration of the population in Tindouf camps, in Algeria.

The UK official reiterated his country’s support for the UN-led political process to reach a political solution to the Sahara issue.
