Official Moroccan sources have revealed that “Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has received a letter from US President Donald Trump, as a response to the letter he sent him about his decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to transfer his country’s embassy there”.
The official Maghreb Arabe Press (MAP) News Agency, which published the news yesterday, mentioned that the US President affirmed to King Mohammed VI as chairman of the Jerusalem Committee that he “agrees with him on the importance of the city of Jerusalem to followers of Judaism, Christianity and Islam”.
In the letter Donald Trump said that: “Jerusalem is, and must remain, a place where Jews pray at the Western Wall, where Christians walk on the Stations of the Cross, and a place where Muslims pray at Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

Regarding the “peace process” the US President stressed that he “is keen on reaching a permanent peace agreement between the Israelis and the Palestinians to support the two-state solution if the two parties are engaged in it.”
Trump concluded his letter by saying that “the specific limitations of Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem are part of the final status negotiations, and the United States does not take any position concerning limitations or borders,” according to the source.
As chairman of the Jerusalem Committee, King Mohammed VI expressed in his letter to the US President concerns about the frequent news of the US administration’s intention to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to move Washington’s embassy to it.
The Royal Moroccan letter stressed that “Jerusalem, by virtue of the relevant international resolutions, including, in particular, the Security Council resolutions, lies at the heart of the final status issues, which requires maintaining its legal status and refraining from anything that might affect its existing political status”.
