Travel Diary | Ami’s Alexandre Mattiussi Goes to Marrakesh

The Hotel Beldi Country Club was the designer Alexandre Mattiussi's base camp on a recent trip to Marrakesh, Morocco.

It’s only been two years since the French designer Alexandre Mattiussi started his men’s-wear label Ami, following successful stints working for Dior, Givenchy and Marc Jacobs. But he is fast becoming a household name for his playful, elegant, well-tailored sportswear. What does a rising star do to relax? In Matiussi’s case, the answer is to fly solo: “I like to travel by myself,” he said. “I always take few days off before the presentation of a new collection.” Last season, he headed to Marrakesh for a quick weekend jaunt — his second trip to Morocco — snapping lots of pictures as he went.
