The walls of the old part of Asilah in northwest Morocco are glossed over white in preparation for “The Cultural Season”, a summer festival which includes a transient open-air exhibition. The event began at the end of the 70s to save the city from decay, after it gained independence from the Spanish protectorate. Asilah has since developed and is now a popular tourist destination, meaning the colourful murals can be admired year round.
