Visiting Spanish foreign minister José Manuel Garcia-Margallo reiterated, Wednesday in Rabat, his country’s support for a “peaceful, negotiated solution” to the Sahara issue.
“Spain supports a peaceful, lasting and mutually acceptable solution to the Sahara issue, and in compliance with the UN resolutions,” the Spanish foreign minister said during a joint conference with his Moroccan counterpart, Saad Dine El Otmani.
On Morocco’s decision to withdraw confidence in the personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Sahara, Christopher Ross, the Spanish minister said “we followed Morocco’s explanations and point of view on this issue and we will examine this question.”
“We can only encourage the negotiations and the important role played by the UN” in this regard, Garcia-Margallo said.
