South Korea For Peaceful Solution To The Sahara Issue: Korean Senior MP

Rabat – Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea Chung Ui-Hwa said on Tuesday that his country, which follows with great interest the Sahara issue, is in favor of a peaceful settlement to the conflict.

The Korean official, who is on a visit to Morocco at the head of a large parliamentary delegation, said, during a meeting in Rabat with the Speaker of Morocco’s House of Representative Karim Ghellab, he will personally ensure that greater interest will be given to this issue, said a statement of the House received by MAP news agency.

For his part, Ghellab reviewed the most important steps on the Sahara issue and informed the Korean parliamentary delegation of the contents of the autonomy proposal offered by the Kingdom to settle the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.

At the meeting, which was attended by Ambassador of South Korea in Morocco Chua Jay-Chul, the two parties focused on consolidating cooperation between the two countries in various fields, particularly between the two legislative institutions.

Chung Ui-Hwa, for his part, considered that the formation of the Korea- Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group is likely to intensify efforts to strengthen the agreements between the two countries in economic and trade fields.

The Korean official underlined the determination of his country to strengthen its cooperation with Morocco, especially in the parliamentary field, noting that the commemoration, on 6 July, of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Morocco, will help strengthen the understanding between the two countries and give a qualitative leap in these relations, the statement added.
