The Renault-Nissan automobile plant in Tangier has celebrated the production of its 400,000th vehicle since its inauguration in February 2012.

Thanks to this progress in its production capacity, the Renault plant in Tangier will be one of the biggest Renault production units in the world, matching the performance of key factories such as those owned by the French company in Turkey and Romania, says Jacques Prost, the Managing Director of the Renault group in Morocco.

Speaking at a ceremony held to mark the occasion here Tuesday, he also affirmed that there was no difference between the production of the factories in Morocco and the production of the other factories of the group around the world, adding that this was an excellent indicator of the quality of the Moroccan production.

Prost said Renault factory in Tangier aimed to increase its production capacity to 225,000 vehicles annually from this year. He ascribed this growth in car production partly to the recovery in the European market which is conducive to future extension projects by the company.

In April 2015, the Renault-Nissan plant in Tangier had produced 74,925 vehicles.

Most cars produced in Morocco by the company are exported to 63 countries around the globe, with France, Spain and Germany as the leading export markets.
