Russia’s President Vladimir Putin sent an invitation to Morocco’s King Mohammed VI to visit Russia, Valentina Matvienko, speaker of the Russian parliament’s upper house, the Federation Council, said Thursday.

Matvienko stated that the date of the king’s arrival is yet to be specified, as his visit should be prepared properly.

“We are sure that the visit will take place, as the invitation to King [Mohammed] was sent personally by the President of the country [Russia],” Matvienko said during the visit of Russia’s Federal Council to Rabat, adding that she will transfer Putin’s personal message during the meeting with the king.

A vast range of documents on Russian-Moroccan cooperation is expected to be signed during the visit, Matvienko said.

Earlier in the day, Russia’s Federal Council and Moroccan Senate signed a memorandum on cooperation.

King Mohammed VI visited Russia in 2002. During his visit, Russian-Moroccan bilateral declaration on strategic partnership was signed.
