Be dazzled by the light, color and textures of Morocco tonight at the Weaver Library in East Providence.
Artist Margaret Maurice Owen will present “Moroccan Sketchbook: One Artist’s Vision of Marrakech.” It will start at 7 pm.
Owen traveled to Marrakech last year with a group of painters. She brings Morocco to East Providence with photographs and paintings that show the northern African country through a painter’s eye.
Owen will discuss her experience as an artist and will also illuminate her painting process by comparing photos with watercolor sketches and paintings.
Owen was born in Durham, N.C. in 1973. She studied at Parsons-Paris as a high school student, and received a BFA from the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. and an MFA from the New York Academy of Art Graduate School of Figurative Art in New York City.
She lives and works in Providence with her husband, Michael Owen, also an artist, and their 6-year-old son. She teaches drawing and painting at a wide variety of institutions and is gearing up for a painting workshop in Morocco.
