Russian security services have contacted their Moroccan counterparts to contribute to efforts aiming at strengthening the security of the 2018 World Cup, local media reported on Saturday.
The Russians have asked the Moroccan security services to provide elements from Moroccan counter-terrorism body, the Central Bureau for Judicial Investigations, to assist, alongside security services of other countries, in the efforts of securing the global sporting expected next summer in Russia, the Moroccan daily Akhbar Al Yaoum said.
Citing sources from Moroccan security services, the daily said the Moroccan mission will take part in establishing a framework to anticipate and neutralize any terrorist terror acts targeting the World Cup.
It noted that the Russian request comes at a time marked by an imminent defeat of the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria, prompting many foreign fighters to relocate their terrorist activities elsewhere, including the World Cup in Russia.
